Who we are
Digital Ownership is a private, local-first ownership tracker. The data controller for the limited processing described in this policy is the operator of Digital Ownership, based in Cyprus. For any privacy question or request, contact ownershipdigital@gmail.com.
Summary
Ownership records, notes, dates, service history and reminders are stored on your device. We do not create an account, do not operate a cloud ownership database and do not receive your ownership records. The optional Product Database request sends a catalogue query, not your ownership data.
What is stored on your device
Ownership records, purchase details, prices, retailers, purchase locations, coverage dates, notes, service history, MOT/inspection and registration dates, custom fields and reminder settings are stored only in the app's local storage. If you type sensitive information into a free-text note, it remains on your device, but we recommend against storing special-category data there. You control the data through the app and can delete it at any time.
Receipt images
Receipt scanning is performed on your device with Apple Vision. The image is a temporary input and is not retained by the app, uploaded, sold or used to train AI models. On supported devices, an optional on-device Apple intelligence model may help interpret the recognised text; it runs locally and no receipt data is sent to us or a third party. Only the details you review and save become part of an ownership record. Camera and photo-library access is requested only when you choose to scan or select a receipt, and you can deny it in iOS Settings.
Notifications
Warranty, return, service, MOT/inspection and registration reminders are scheduled locally by iOS. The native app does not use a remote push service for ownership reminders. Notification permission is requested only when you choose to enable reminders in Settings. You can change the lead times or disable notifications at any time.
Optional Product Database and technical data
When you choose to sync or search the optional catalogue, the app sends a request over HTTPS to our catalogue service. That request may include standard technical data such as your IP address, device type, requested URL and time, processed by our hosting provider to deliver the response, prevent abuse and keep the service available. We do not send your ownership records, receipt images, notes or reminder data with this request, and we do not use the technical data to identify you or build a profile. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing and securing the optional catalogue.
Website and analytics
The marketing website at digital-ownership.com uses no analytics, cookies or advertising scripts. The separate web application at app.digital-ownership.com uses cookie-free aggregate Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to understand overall performance. Those measurements are aggregate, do not build an advertising profile and are not part of the native app. Vercel may process standard technical request data to deliver and secure the websites. The native app does not include third-party analytics, advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating secure, reliable services.
Bundled artwork
Category photographs are bundled local assets from Unsplash, used under the Unsplash License. Opening the app does not request images from Unsplash or any other image host, and the photographs do not identify you.
Legal bases under the GDPR
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Consent for camera and photo-library access and for notifications, which you can withdraw at any time in iOS Settings.
- Legitimate interests in providing and securing the optional catalogue, preventing abuse and measuring aggregate website performance.
- Legal obligations where we must retain support communications for tax, accounting or legal reasons.
We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Your rights
If the GDPR applies, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, receive your data in a portable format, withdraw consent and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because there is no account, we may not be able to identify your local records; you can access, export and delete them directly in Settings. For server logs or support emails, email ownershipdigital@gmail.com. We respond within one month, extendable by two months for complex requests, and may ask for information needed to verify the request.
You can complain to the Cyprus Commissioner for Personal Data Protection at www.dataprotection.gov.cy, to your local EU/EEA supervisory authority, or, for UK users, to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
Service providers and international transfers
We rely on Apple for the App Store, iOS and local notifications, on Vercel for website hosting and aggregate performance measurement, and on an email provider for support correspondence. These providers process data under their own terms and, where applicable, data-processing agreements. Where data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses, an adequacy decision or another lawful transfer mechanism. We do not sell, rent or share your data for advertising or data-broker purposes.
Your control
You can export your records as a JSON file, import a backup, or clear local data from Settings. Export files are created and shared by you. Clearing local data does not delete anything from the web application or from any other device. Keep exported backups secure because they contain the ownership information you chose to record.
Data retention
Local records remain on the device until you delete them, clear local data, or uninstall the app. The app does not have a server-side ownership account to delete. Technical request logs are retained by the hosting provider for the period needed for security, abuse prevention and service operation, subject to its retention schedule. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to answer the request and to meet legal or accounting obligations.
Security
Local data is protected by iOS device security. Network requests to the optional catalogue use HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so protect your device with a passcode and keep exported backups in a safe place. If you believe your device or backup has been compromised, change your device passcode and delete or re-export the affected data.
Children
Digital Ownership is a general-purpose ownership tracker and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through a support message, contact us and we will delete it. Local records can be deleted directly in Settings.
No sale, advertising or tracking
We do not sell or rent personal data, do not use advertising SDKs, do not track you across other apps or websites, and do not use data brokers. The native app has no third-party analytics. The optional catalogue is a product-facts service, not an advertising or profiling service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, the law or our providers change. The updated date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be communicated in the app or on the website before they take effect where required by law. Continued use after an update means you have seen the revised policy.
Contact and complaints
For privacy or support questions, contact ownershipdigital@gmail.com or use the support page. You can also write to the supervisory authority named above. We will do our best to resolve your concern directly before you escalate it.
